Speak

For my Teaching Literacy to Adolescents class, I have to read so many young adult books, it kind of makes my head spin. I just read the first one, though.

It's called Speak by Aurie Halse Anderson and if you haven't read it, I really think you should. It'll take about two hours of your time and this book is amazing. It's so subtle as it starts out and you meet the newly made social outcast Melinda. Throughout the book, you track how so she changes through the school year as she deals what happened over the summer.

I called her tragedy before I was even half-way through the book but still. Wow. The way the book deals with such a sensitive subject is amazing.

I do hope you don't have to read Twilight for this class. O.o

XD Funny story about that! I volunteered to read Twilight! xD

Long story short, we have about 10 books that we HAVE to read for the class and then we have to pick FOUR MORE books to read ON THE SIDE. So yeah, I went through his list of "suggested" books to read and noticed that a couple were ones that I already read this spring in my "Adolescence Culture and Diversity" class. =D So I was all like "SWEET! I'm reading those!" xD Plus I needed one more and Harry Potter was on the list so again, all right, yeah? No more extra reading!

And THEN, he just had to say that we didn't have to stick to the list. That if we wanted a vampire romance or something, he'd "walk the Twilight road" with us. xD

I have a friend that has been BEGGING me to read Twilight. A lot because she wants to see me rip it to freaking shreds. xD And I've said "Um. Got a LOT better things to do with my time, thanks." But now. Now. Now I get COLLEGE CREDIT for doing so. =D So I called her up and said "You know how you've always wanted me to read Twilight? Can I borrow your copy?" xD

So no. I don't have to read Twilight. I actively chose to do so. xD BRING IT! =D =D

My friend says she also wants to give me a big red pen to go with it. xD
