Movie Recs

Now, I tend to absolutely hate movies. I can't watch them without disecting them--as a writer and an actress. Stilted dialogue, bad characterizations, and cliched plots are all pointed out without mercy, as well as bad acting, lack of emoting, etc. When I watch bad movies like that (that aren't so awesomely bad they're good), I can only think "I could do it better" and elaborate on the ways the movie could be made bearable.

That done, rent Finding Neverland. Not only does it have Johnny Depp (giving a movie instant greatness in my eyes) but it's simply well done. It made me cry, guys. I simply fell in love with all the characters, even the draconian matriach by the end. Favorite character, though (besides Johnny Depp ^_^ ) was Charles Frohman played by Dustin Hoffman. I absolutely loved the guy and his gruff, muttering ways. ^_^ Maybe he was just my type.

And never rent Bridget Jones Diary: The Edge of Reason. It completely blows. It doesn't have any of the charm of the first one and I just found myself wincing instead of laughing like I was probably supposed to.

Sequels suck. There's a Miss Congeniality 2 too that I'm dreading too. Why can't these damn studios just leave well enough alone? Write a damn new story instead of spamming us all with half-assed sequels.

I cried through the whole second half of Finding Neverland. I had to leave the theater to get tissue from the restroom at one point. *sigh*

I heard the Bridget Jones sequel audiobook and it was not painful, but alas forgettable. I have no intention of seeing the movie that was raped made from it.

I'm giving Miss Congeniality 2 a wide berth as well.

In fact, there's nothing at the theater I like right now. I checked the listings to see if I could take Dresden to see something this afternoon, but...eh. We just went out to eat instead.

I forget, did you see Constantine?

The last good movie I saw was Maria Full of Grace, and before that, The Station Agent (http://imdb.com/title/tt0340377/). Both started out as if there was nothing there that would keep my interest, but there was something that just made me stay and keep watching. And both turned out more than worth it.

I really want to see Maria Full of Grace. Must. Remember. To TiVo.

We didn't see Constantine yet. Since Christmas all my going-to-the-movies movie plans (save for Shaun of the Dead) have been for naught. *sigh*

I'm really keen to see Finding Neverland--it's already on my DVD rental list and I can't wait for it to arrive :D Glad to hear it's good!
