Supernatural 1.04 Phantom Traveler

So I'm watching "The Phantom Traveler" on TNT and besides my absolute love for the baby!boys (and, you know, Dean in his black boxer-briefs...), I'm just struck at how much prettier the early seasons are from the current one. I would love it if we could get a few episodes with this kind of lighting. The colors are like the Impala. They're crystal and slick, bright flashes of color and highlights with sharp shadows. Like I said it's like the car itself, like it was shot just to emphasis how pretty that car is. And it goes so well with the overall feel of Supernatural. I love it.

And, you know, Dean's boxer-briefs.

Edit: Bloody Mary. Also one of my favorite episodes in terms of prettiness. Got a question, however: Why is Sam carrying all of Dean's cash? =D Oh, yeah, sure Dean doesn't like handing over pieces of control...

Heh, I'm watching as well and totally agree, Dean in boxer briefs is always a bonus.. Plus, there's no batman voice, I miss that. ♥ (And Sammy gets all controlling when Dean panics on the plane. Heh.)

Seasons 1 & 2 are still my favorite. It's so sad that Kim Manners is gone for the reasons you mentioned about lighting and such.

I think seasons 1 and 2 will always be my favorites, too. I just adore them so much. I miss Kim Manners as well. =( The episodes that he directed were always just the most gorgeous in terms of cinematography.

I think that's one of the brightest episodes in the entire series, color-wise - maybe a couple scenes in Changing Channels and Mystery Spot are brighter. In the cinematography's defense, though, overcast existence in Vancouver may be partially to blame.

Hee. I like bright colors, I guess, because i loved all of those episodes. I also loved--in terms of sheer beauty film-wise--Dead in the Water (which I always seem to manage to type as "Dean in the Water" every single time... -_- ).

And, yeah, most likely. It's hard to get bright clear days like that in Vancouver.

I actually timed getting the mail today so that I wouldn't miss the camera making love to the curve of Dean's back. Good god, seriously, that's some pretty stuff. The camera loves that boy.

There was an episode this season where one of them was lying down on their side but twisted around to talk to the other and I remember that it reminded me so much of that scene. But for the love of all that's hot, I can't find the episode (I talked about it in my IM log on October 9th, so it was to be in 1-3, but can't find it :( )

There was an episode like that this season. I think I know which one that you're talking about. It was Dean lying on the bed, red sheets, twisted around to talk to Sam. Unfortunately, he was still in his jeans. I still would have taken it, though, if only the camera would have panned down a bit more so I could have focused on his ass. ;_; I spent the scene literally begging the camera to pan down a few inches!

Even in his jeans, he's hot as hell. And maybe it's just a kink of mine, but I absolutely love it when Jensen shows off his back, no matter who he's playing. Something about that man's back... I remember watching the scene with both my parents and thinking, "Why aren't they acting like this is weird? That's too hot to be natural!" and then realizing it was just me.

With Dean's mouth opening in a quiet gasp every time that Sam slides in, rocking up against the bed with the slow thrust... Sam's big hands digging into the bed beside Dean as he holds himself up before he dips his head and licks at the freckles on Dean's shoulders. Dean's pinned, can't do anything more than just take it, mindlessly rolling his hips against the bed, grinding his dick against the comforter, desperate for friction...

In the beginning of Bloody Mary, Sam and Dean go to check out the corpse of BM's first victim in the episode. They have to bribe the ME guy because he won't let them in. Sam gives the guy a $100 and Dean gets pissed. "I earned that money!" and Sam's all, "you won it in a poker game" while Dean does a 'yeah, and what's your point?' look. So Sam was holding Dean's cash. And freely handing it out. xD

Bwah! I've been saying this for years, but I really need to start re-watching from the beginning! There is so much I forgot over the years and I love the first 2 seasons too, they are my fav. The boys were so gorgeous in those eps! Although I like Sam now too!
You can really tell when Kim Manners wasn't there anymore.

I also liked the pranking/brotherly love from those seasons.

ZOMG, BB, I got S1 on blu-ray for Christmas, and this whole thread just reminded me of how I need to watch it NOW. S1 and S2 are by far the best - for the lighting, for the music (both the use of rock n roll as an integral part of the eps AND the score [the score drives me NUTS now, so dramatic, so over the top, like the directors are saying we aren't sure you're getting what you're supposed to be feeling right now so we'll shove the mood down your throat, ugh]), FOR THE OTP!!!!! FOR DEAN SLEEPING HALF NAKED INSTEAD OF FULLY CLOTHED (I get it, I get it, it's all about how secure he doesn't feel, but still - let's get him on the path to mental well-being so he can start sleeping in boxers and a t-shirt again, yeah?) Sniffles. I miss Kim Manners so much, because I'm pretty sure that HE was the Showrunner, ya know? It just hasn't been the same since.

...It's odd to say, but I think that Supernatural was a bit more...subtle when it was all cheesy. o.O

I think that Kim Manners was a lot more than an executive producer. He just made the episodes so pretty and awesome with the details. I really miss him because it's just so obvious in the episodes. It's a shame that they don't have anyone like him left on their team. ;_;

ITA that seasons 1 & 2 were the best by far. Watching the vid part of the picspam of Jensen's sleepy shot I noticed that Jared's billing pops up (LOL) right as the camera pans over Dean's ass :DD Ooh I loved that comment about Jared/Sam sliding up Jensen's/Dean's body and just...UNF! I know Dean comes off as "bossy" (and seems like a top) but we even he admits that he gets all "tingly" when Sammy takes control, so I'd love for Sam to really show him who's boss in bed. Talk about porn fantasies in the comments - at least I'm not alone in my insanity <33
